Accounting Articles > Tax Planning:

What time of year should my accountant do tax planning?

Generally, we do tax planning with our customers at least two times per year:

  1. After tax season, after looking at the personal income tax situation

  2. Right before the end of the business year

After the year's end, there is very little, if anything, that can be done for you.

I would hope that you already have someone competent watching your books on an ongoing basis. If you do not, find someone immediately. Most clients don't know what they are looking at or for, and the oversight of an experienced, qualified accountant can make all the difference. This is also one of the reasons why a set of monthly financial statements is so important.
