The anniversary of the start of my first business was last week, and I was too busy to remember it. Accounting Solutions Ltd. has now proudly served its clients for over 32 years.
As we begin this next year, I thought I’d share our company’s Mission Statement that I wrote so many years ago. Somehow, it seems more fitting now, than it did back when I wrote it. Here goes.
I opened what would ultimately become Accounting Solutions on November 15th of 1990. I was only twenty-four years old, but I knew exactly what I wanted.
I wanted a company that followed the Golden Rule.
1 – A company that treated its clients the way that it would want to be treated.
2 – A company that treated its employees the way that it would want to be treated.
3 – A company that treated its suppliers the way that it would want to be treated.
It’s been a long, hard road, but I can safely say without question, comment, or doubt, that we’ve achieved our initial goals. But along the way, I added another one.
Quite simply, it was to be the very best.
In order for tax work to be fundamentally sound, it must start with the very best bookkeeping and accounting work. If you get the bookkeeping and accounting work right, it’s easy to get the tax work right as well. But if the bookkeeping and accounting work is wrong, then you’ll never get the tax returns right. Period.
Our company is a team that wakes up every day with only one thing in mind, That’s to do the very best work of our entire careers.
If you are looking for an organization that will cut corners, do work that is just “okay”, or help you cheat, then please don’t waste our time. Seek help elsewhere.
But if you are looking for an organization that truly cares about its clients, that does work at the highest possible standards knowing exactly how to legally save you the most money at reasonable prices, then you have found a home.
Our main job is to not just reconcile bank statements, tie out liabilities, and complete tax returns that will stand up to audit. These services are part of what we do, but they are just components in our overall objective.
Our main job is to protect you, your family, and your business.
And we are extremely proud of the fact that we have achieved this goal as well. We get it done each and every day.
Let me leave you with this.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, we have many things to be thankful for. It’s been a difficult year, of that there is no question, and it looks like next year won’t be much easier.
A stumbling economy, ineffective government, inflation, rising interest rates, labor difficulties, supply chain nightmares, and an expanded IRS promising even more examinations, immediately comes to mind. Just writing that sentence made me want to mix a martini.
But I’d like for you to take a moment tomorrow, in the midst of all this adversity, to realize just how blessed you really are.
Thank whatever God you pray to for the family and friends that surround you on this special day. Your loved ones are really what it’s all about.
Be thankful for your company, your employees, and your clients. For serving them will always be what your company should be about.
And thank whatever God you pray to for being an American. Where else could a kid like me who was one-third native and fifteen percent black, born in a $200 a month apartment down in Uptown, ever write a Mission Statement like mine and actually be able to achieve it?
There’s only one place on Earth where that was possible, Only one place where I could truly serve my fellow man, and provide the gifts of my abilities. One place where I live that dream every day.
That dream is The American Dream.
It’s still out there. It’s still possible. And if I could do it, so can you.
