Chicago May Not Reopen June 3rd

My 2:00 appointment just called to reschedule because he needs to board up his business. He isn’t in Downtown Chicago or Merrillville. He’s in Lake Forest.

Buildings are currently burning on the southside. Buildings that house businesses owned by our Brothers and Sisters that happen to be black are burning.

My receptionist couldn’t even get here this morning because of the blockade around downtown.

If you thought that things couldn’t get any worse given this pandemic, you were wrong. I guess that the words I wrote Friday afternoon about the looting and rioting getting worse before it got better were prophetic. That’s not me being happy. That’s certainly not me saying that I told you so.

That’s me weeping.

This thing finally blew up. We didn’t want it to, but we all knew that it was possible. We all knew that it could happen, and here we are.

Yesterday, Mayor Lightfoot said that given the current situation, Chicago may not reopen on Wednesday, June 3rd. I guess that you can’t blame her. They called in The National Guard to secure downtown, while The Chicago Police Department tried to stop some of the insanity.

I’m not going to get into the issues that are supposedly behind all of this. I could. Being one-third Apache, Cherokee, Paiute & Sioux, as well as fifteen percent black, it wouldn’t be that hard. I personally have felt the sting of racism much more than most, but I have always risen above the stupidity. This isn’t the point of why I am writing to you today.

My point is that you need to do whatever is necessary to get through this.

Leadership isn’t easy, especially in difficult times like these. Many of you are partially or fully shut down. Maybe have revenues that are down significantly. Maybe you are having significant difficulties with your staffing, and now we may not even reopen on Wednesday. There are any number of ways that we all have been affected by this nightmare.

Now people that you don’t know, people that you have done absolutely nothing wrong to in your entire life, might possibly loot and destroy your business.

You’ve got to hold on.

Do what is necessary to safeguard your businesses and your families. Do what is necessary to manage the stress and anxiety of these difficult times. You can do this. We can do this. We can all do this together.

Always know that you can call us at any time for any reason, and we will do whatever we can to help you.
