As we move into December, many are concerned about decorating the house for the holidays or doing their last minute shopping. But as we get closer to New Years, it’s also time to do tax planning for 2022.
It’s certainly true that our current administration hasn’t passed many laws that are of concern other than the Inflation Reduction Act. But there’s still a host of changes to consider as well as the lame duck Congress now in session, that’s trying to pass whatever it can before the new congress is sworn into office.
This is a nice way of saying that there may still be more tax law changes in store that will affect this tax year. I’ve worked through tax seasons where our elected officials were still passing new laws two weeks into the following year.

This year is going to be different to say the least. The last few years have been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs for most.
2019 was normal, but then the pandemic hit in 2020 with government shutdowns. 2021 still had its hindrances, so that year was also crazy.
This year was a balancing act between inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain nightmares, so again we’ll have difficulties.
