When you look at America, what do you see? Do you see red states and blue states? Do you see the ultra conservative Christians on one side and the Ideological Socialists on the other? That certainly seems to be what the popular media is trying to sell as they promote fear and division in our ranks.
When did this become the soul of America?
When did it become popular to hate a person because they disagree with our point of view? When did that person become an enemy? Is that how you were raised? Is that what America is supposed to be about?
When are Americans going to realize that there isn’t anyone left to fight? The cold war is over. We won. Is that why we now do nothing but fight each other?
When you look at America, what do you see?
I see white faces, red faces, yellow faces and brown faces. I see Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus. I see straights, gays, and lesbians all living together as one, in perfect American magnificence.
I see a language of brotherhood, unity, and loyalty, spoken unanimously by all of my brothers and sisters. That vernacular of honor, personal responsibility, and respect for all, no matter who they are or where they come from is the essence of the American Ideal. I see Americans speaking the true language of America. In one place and at one time, I see the most complicated and beautiful sight to possibly be imagined.
I see the great American melting pot.
Before you go to the polls tomorrow, close your eyes, and try to see what I see. Think about the America that is versus the America that should be. Think about what our Founding Fathers and the framers of our Constitution had in mind when they formed our great Land of Liberty.
Think about the millions of Americans who died to give you your freedom. Think of the millions of immigrants who still crowd our shores, thirsty for the life you live. Get past all of the drama, ignorance, and stupidity and think about how lucky you really are.
Then do the one thing we all can do to make a difference.
You can talk about polling data and battlefield states. You can yell about the electoral college and foreign intervention. But after the election four years ago, no one can honestly say that their vote doesn’t count.
You have a right, a responsibility to participate in this election. If you don’t then you shouldn’t be able to complain about it’s outcome.
How you vote is up to you. Whether you are voting for someone, or simply voting against someone, vote. If you don’t, and you’re unhappy with the outcome, then you have no one to blame but yourself.
When it’s over, let’s come together as one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Let’s not be Democrats, Republicans, or Independents. Let’s not be Red States or Blue States. Let us heal our nation, and become one again.
Let’s be Americans. Let’s all see purple. Do something original. Lead.
