Let me leave you with this.
How will you remember 2020?
Was it a year where you spent most of it in constant fear? Did you spend every spare minute feeding those anxieties by watching CNN?
Was it a year where your business was terribly interrupted by the pandemic. Were you shut down for months? Are you still shut down? Or, like us, did you have half of your staff come down with the virus at the same time?
Given the difficulties you faced, was it a year where you needed to reinvent your business? Did you need to change how you delivery your products and services? Did you begin offering new products and services as a result of the difficulties?
How we remember this year will depend on our individual circumstances and how we adapted to the changes that were necessary.
There are certain businesses where change was relatively impossible. Those entrepreneurs had to lay off their staff and simply ride it out. There just wasn’t much that could be done.
Others were able to improvise, overcome, and adapt. One of the saddest facts of human existence is that more innovation happens in war time than in peace. Many entrepreneurs have created new products and services. Many are coming out of this stronger than when they went in.
I’m sure there’s one thing that all of us can agree on which is the fact that we’re all pretty tired of 2020. We’re all ready to regain some sense of normalcy. What that new normal will look like is anyone’s guess, but we’ve obviously turned a corner. With the vaccines now in use this crazy time in our lives will soon be over.
When I look back at the year, my memories will be bittersweet. I’ll remember the brothers and sisters I lost to the virus. Brothers and sisters that I respect and miss. Friends that I’ll remember.
I’ll remember the companies that have shut down and entrepreneurs who now need to start over. Hopefully those brothers and sisters have learned something in the process and will now be able to create stronger businesses that will stand the test of time.
I’ll also remember all of you who were able to make their business stronger in this nightmare. Brave entrepreneurs who were able to expand their offerings, start new things, and pivot to success. Given the numbers that are coming out of my office, for many, this has been the best year of their lives.
However you look back at this year, do it knowing that we’re here to help you. Whatever ever your needs happen to be, realize that you have a brother who actually cares about you and your success.
May the New Year bring you and yours health, wealth, and happiness.
