New Stimulus Package Seems Unlikely Before Next Year
On Tuesday a group of 127 economist sent an open letter to congress urging them to pass another stimulus bill. This put additional pressure on lawmakers to get something done quickly.
Congress is on vacation until after the holiday. Sadly, once they come back in session, they’re immediate issue is to keep the federal government open. Lawmakers will have precious little time to hammer out a spending bill before December 11th, when the current measure runs out.
If they can avert a shutdown, then there are still the philosophical differences separating the two sides. One favors a large spending bill while the other is concerned about the lasting issues of a budget out of control.
As such, any deal prior to the new president taking office in January is unlikely at best.
Let me leave you with this.
In these difficult times, the concept of Thanksgiving takes on an entirely new meaning.
Maybe this year is going badly for you. Maybe there isn’t a lot to be thankful for. On the other hand, possibly the changes we’re experiencing have turned this into the best year you’ve ever had.
Whatever your individual circumstance happens to be take a moment and try to enjoy this most American of holidays.
Put your arms around your loved ones, and let them know how thankful you are that they’re in your life. This is a difficult time for them as well. Reassure them that everything will be fine.
Take some time for yourself. Rest, exercise, and do something that you enjoy. Most of all, give thanks for the people in your life that make it worth living. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s the fact that life is short. Try to enjoy it.
