One of the things we do with newer clients is to help them deal with their financial fears. Sometimes those fears are so great that they turn away from dealing with their finances altogether.
These fears come in many categories.
1 – Sometimes the client knows nothing about finance, and is afraid of making mistakes.
2 – Many have had bad accountants and financial advisors in the past. These bad experiences put them in a position where they’re, “Once bitten and twice shy.”
3 – Many are so far behind in filing their taxes that they’re paralyzed into inaction.
The truly sad part about it is that most started their businesses in order to have a better financial future, which is now impossible given their fears.
Competence can be the key to dealing with these issues. Once a new client comes to us and realizes that we actually know what we’re doing, the fear evaporates like Casper’s ghost.
I’m not a psychiatrist. I don’t even play one on TV, but I will tell you one thing.
The sooner you deal with these issues, the better off you’ll be. These are the sorts of things that can fester and ruin your life.

Every morning I wake up, turn on my computer, and check the latest Covid numbers. This new surge has made the new case numbers go crazy, but that isn’t the most important number that I watch.
I also check for the number of available ICU beds in Chicago. For the first time in recent history, that number was under 10%.
Many venues are voluntarily shutting down and the Chicago Teachers Union is pulling old moves from it’s all too tiring playbook. It’s obvious that our elected officials want to keep things open this time, but it looks like the hospital system will be completely overwhelmed in short order.
That being said, they may have no choice but to begin closing things down again.
I’m writing this because I don’t want you to be that Ostrich that sticks its head in the sand when it senses danger. This may be coming in our near future. As such, you’ll need to be ready.
Have your contingency plans in place. Know exactly what you’re going to do no matter what the future brings.
If that means cutting staff or working remotely, get to it. If you need to change your offerings, don’t hesitate. If you need to change the manner in which you provide your goods or services, don’t waste a minute.
I know you’re tired. I know you’re sick. We’re all sick of being tired, but that’s the job. Like it or not, it’s what we signed on for.
We can’t just lead when things are easy. We actually earn our pay when things get nasty, so let’s get to it.
