As Congress and The White House mull over their newest aid package to the C-19 Crisis, I thought that it would be important to put some of this craziness into perspective.
One of the nicer things about the end of tax season, other than the fact that it is over of course, is the fact that I get to deliver tax returns and talk to so many of you. One of the strange things about all of this crisis is that it has created new winners and losers.
The only thing that is talked about in the popular media is death, destruction, and fear. They want to show you the numbers. How many cases…How many deaths…How many businesses are failing…What states are being shut down again. Why? Because their job is to make sure that you don’t change the channel. Fear is their ally.
I’m not making light of this nightmare. I’ve had two clients die from this thing. Two men that I miss terribly. Two men that I greatly respect. This thing isn’t a joke.
But whenever there is a major economic upheaval, there are always winners and losers. When Russia stopped being The USSR, more Billionaires were created overnight, than at any other time in history.
Rather than focusing on the fear, I’d like for you to begin focusing on the opportunities.
I was able to talk to one of my Bar / Restaurant Owners. I asked how he was doing. He replied that he had just had the best weekend of his entire business life. I asked how? He said that the bars in Chicago close at eleven o’clock, and then everyone comes to his places with a two am license.
You certainly aren’t going to hear about him on cable.
I was able to talk to one of my online retailers of industrial products. His numbers have doubled in this catastrophe. Why? Because face to face shopping is considered unsafe.
Do you think that you will read about him in any of our newspapers?
I was also able to talk to one of my guys in the personal protection products business. By the end of the first quarter of this year, he had already surpassed his sales figures from 2019.
You won’t hear anything about his success story anywhere.
What I am trying to do is to get all of you, to start thinking creatively. You have this product or this service that isn’t doing well in this economy. Okay. Were you just going to sit around and cry about it? I certainly hope not. Or will you alter your offerings or your marketplace to accommodate the changing times?
As we get further into this thing, everyone is realizing that The PPP Loan was a two month solution to an eighteen month problem. Is more stimulus money coming? I don’t know. Maybe? Probably? Who knows?
What I do know is that none of us can depend on the government to do our jobs for us.
My Brothers and Sister, you’re Entrepreneurs. You captain the ship. It’s your hand at the wheel that saves or sinks your vessel. Making sure that you get through this thing is your job, not the government’s.
